KAYAK DOG
Watersport enthusiast Dave Stewart's regular kayaking trips along the River Tamar, Plymouth, often cause a bit of a splash - as he takes to the water accompanied by his giant 55kg Newfoundland dog Shadow.
The shaggy-coated, and not yet fully grown year-old's webbed feet and water-resistant fur make him the ideal kayaking companion and should Dave capsize on his trip he has a ready-made lifeguard to keep him afloat.
Originally bred to haul nets for fishermen, Newfoundlands are renowned for their water rescue abilities and Shadow thinks nothing of joining Royal Marine Commando Dave in the water for a cooling swim before climbing back aboard and heading for home.
